Coronavirus: The Stranglers keyboard player Dave Greenfield dies aged 71
“Dave Greenfield, the keyboard player with The Stranglers, has died after testing positive for coronavirus.”
Dave Greenfield was the co-writer of Golden Brown, one of my favourite songs as a teenager. It’s terrible news for his family and friends, the band and their fans.
But once again, the headlines mislead the public. Greenfield was in his seventies and had already been in hospital for a prolonged period with heart problems.
It’s funny how these journalists - every one of them - fail to drill down into the “underlying” health issues. I went through 13 pages of Google results for this story and not one looked into his heart problems in any way. What was wrong with his heart? What was his prognosis?
“Underlying” health issues also makes it sound trivial as if it’s almost not worth mentioning. “Oh, and he also had underlying health issues which probably didn’t help.”
